FAQs

How much confidence can I have in a Viking Full System warranty from Skellerup Viking?
Any building product supply company or contractor can write a warranty - and most do. What really matters is what and who is behind the company writing the warranty. Skellerup Viking is owned by the New Zealand owned Tiri Group of companies. Tiri Group has annual turnover exceeding NZ$150 mill and shareholders funds of NZ$12 mill. Other companies in the Group include, Masport, Masport Foundries, A&G Price, RH Freeman, Pacific Wallcoverings, NZ Insulators, Electrical Supply Company, Temuka Pottery. With brands and backing like these and a commitment to investing and growing it’s businesses, the Tiri Group can be relied on to back its warranties over the long term.

Many other waterproofing companies offer 20 year warranties - what’s the difference?
Not all warranties are created equal. If a warranty is important to your project we suggest checking the capital backing, the time the company has been in the market and the reputation of both the product supplier and of the applicator, in order to make a valid comparison with a Viking Full System Warranty.

Why use a Full System Warranty instead of the normal separate product and applicator warranty?
The NZ construction market has been asking for a single party to take total responsibility for waterproofing and roofing warranties instead of separate responsibilities which can sometimes cause problems. With a Viking Full System Warranty, in the unlikely event of a problem, you can deal with a single party you can trust.

Why is the Viking Full System Warranty for 20 years?
Under the requirements of the New Zealand Building Code, materials which are moderately difficult to access or replace and make up part of the exterior envelope of the building, such as waterproofing membranes and roofing must last for a minimum of 15 years. At Skellerup Viking, we have ensured all of our products in this situation exceed the minimum requirements and have a minimum life expectancy of 20 years and are therefore able to confidently warrant our products for this period. We have product warranties which in some cases extend as long as 50 years.

How does the Viking Full System Warranty differ or relate to a producer statement?
A Producer Statement is a document usually issued by an architect or tradesman, to the council, stating that the project has been completed in accordance with the Building Code requirements and that the materials are fit for purpose. This document allows a council inspector to decide whether to issue a code of compliance certificate or not, without having to have duplicated some of the design and construction checking already undertaken by others qualified to do so. While a Producer statement is an assessment based on a snapshot in time (completion of the job) a warranty is a document warranting the job to be free from defect for the full period offered. Warranties are either based on materials (issued by the supplier), workmanship (issued by the contractor) or it can be combined into a Full System Warranty issued by the supplier on behalf of itself and the contractor.

How does the Viking Full System Warranty differ from other Skellerup Viking warranties?
Skellerup Viking still continues to offer standard product warranties which are mostly for 20 years. Skellerup Approved Applicators continue to offer a 5 year workmanship warranty. These warranties are offered from two separate entities and can still be relied on as substantial warranties for your job but do not have the added benefit of being able to deal with a substantial single party with a 20 year combined product and workmanship warranty including a more comprehensive quality control and inspection regime.

Why are jobs under 300 square metres not eligible for the Viking Full System Warranty?
